With health and wellness and indoor air quality as top concerns for home buyers, innovation is flourishing in home systems. From controllers that can detect elevated volatile organic compounds and automatically adjust ventilation performance to exhaust fans with antibacterial violet lights, system manufacturers have been hard at work to launch products that will help homeowners feel at ease and live more comfortably. In addition to HVAC, electrical manufacturers have continued to develop solar panel technology, release more functional outlets and switches, and build upon the existing whole-home systems that allow owners to monitor and adjust their preferences via smart devices.
Broan-NuTone
To reduce the spread of bacteria in bathrooms, Broan-NuTone has developed a new cover option for the SurfaceShield exhaust fan that combines Vyv antibacterial violet light technology with powerful ventilation. The replacement LED modules are deadly to bacteria, fungi, and mold, says the manufacturer. The upgraded cover is compatible with existing ventilation fan housing dimensions of 9 1/4 inches by 10 inches. There are two lighting modes, an everyday white light and the SurfaceShield continuous antimicrobial mode. broan-nutone.com

According to the manufacturer, they are the only illuminated switches engineered for optimal performance with all bulb types, including LEDs, CFLs, and incandescent, without requiring a neutral wire. leviton.com
LG
LG’s new 66-cell NeON R and NeON R Prime modules feature back-contact technology, which enables all interconnectors to be positioned on the cell’s under side to increase the potential for sunlight absorption and decrease vulnerability to environmental damage. The technology, along with the relocation of electrodes to the back, also provides a sleek, modern appearance to the module. Available to builders this spring, the NeON R 66-cell residential solar panel has a power output up to 440W, while the NeON R Prime comes in a 425W model. lg.com

Fantech
Fantech has created a new control option for its lines of heat recovery ventilator and energy recovery ventilator appliances—the ECO-Touch Auto IAQ controller. Among other features, the system is able to automatically detect elevated volatile organic compounds in a home air system and adjust ventilation performance to cycle in fresh air. It also adjusts for elevated moisture in the home, and will regulate air circulation in response to events (like large gatherings) while the touchscreen control panel allows homeowners to easily identify the home’s air quality status. fantech.net
