Rebate and Discount Programs that will help cover your costs to install energy efficient HVAC equipment can really save you a lot on a hew, energy efficient HVAC Split System. 2026 is a great time to invest in a new system and save, but these programs will end. Installations must be completed by 12/31/2026 to qualify. Once these Energy Efficient systems are installed, they provide you long term savings on fuel and energy for years to come.

Maryland Potomac Edison customers are entitled to rebates through Potomac Edison when they have installed certain energy efficient systems which qualify. There are several tiers allowing you to save up to $1,700.00. These rebates can add to any discounts and specials being offered by manufacturers and installation companies. EmPOWER Maryland

EmPOWER Maryland

The EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act of 2008 created the EmPOWER Maryland program to incentivize energy efficiency and conservation efforts. As part of their EmPOWER Maryland portfolios, Maryland’s five largest electric utilities offer programs to help Maryland’s households and businesses save energy and money through a variety of incentives, such as free or discounted energy audits, weatherization, and efficient appliances.

The Following Investor-Owned Utilities Pay Into EmPOWER:

In 2024, the Maryland General Assembly enacted House Bill 864, which made updates to the EmPOWER Maryland Energy Efficiency Act. The law requires utilities to add new incentives to help Marylanders make the switch from fossil fuel-powered heating and appliances to efficient, electric alternatives. The law also requires Choptank Electric Cooperative to begin offering energy efficiency programs to customers.

For low-income customers of EmPOWER utilities, the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) administers the Low Income Energy Efficiency Program (LIEEP). This program assists low-income households with installation of energy conservation measures in their homes with zero out-of-pocket expenses.

How the Program Works

Once EmPOWER Maryland has determined that your household is eligible to participate in the program, you will be contacted by a local agency that will schedule a time for your home to receive an energy audit. The audit will prioritize the most effective ways to reduce your energy costs while increasing comfort. The local agency will discuss the results of the energy audit with you and schedule a contractor to come out to your home to complete the recommended work. As part of this process, the local agency will ask you to share information on your energy bills and may talk to you about things that you and your family can do to save even more energy. After the energy efficiency upgrades have been made to your home, the local agency will conduct another evaluation of your home to ensure that your home is operating more efficiently.

The program may provide the following improvements to make your home safer, healthier and more energy efficient:

  • Insulation in the attic, floors and walls;
  • Hot water system improvements;
  • Lighting retrofits;
  • Furnace cleaning, tuning and safety repairs;
  • Refrigerator retrofit, if applicable;
  • Health and safety items.
