If you live in Ocala, FL and you want to stay cool during the summer, then it’s a good idea to check your digital thermostat’s screen to make sure it’s not blank. While that may not a big deal in some cases, in others, it could indicate a serious problem. Here are five possible reasons for a blank thermostat screen.
1. Thermostat Turned Off
It’s entirely possible for you to have accidentally bumped the thermostat and turned it off. Or, if you live with other people, someone else might have turned it off on purpose or accidentally in the same way you could have. Check to make sure that the device is still turned on before you do anything else.
2. Low or Dead Batteries
This should be easy to check. Simply remove the cover, change the batteries, and see if the thermostat turns back on. While many thermostats are hardwired, they may have back-up batteries, which should be checked periodically.
If it does, then you’ve solved the problem. If not, then search for the cause elsewhere.
3. Power Outage
Florida has many summer thunderstorms that sometimes causes the power to go out. If you lose power, your thermostat may have a blank screen. If it has backup batteries, the screen may still be lit, but your HVAC system won’t run until the power comes back on.
4. Tripped Breaker
In most modern homes, the HVAC system will be on its own breaker that is set for the amperage rating of the appliance. Still, it’s possible that the breaker will have tripped. As with power outages, if the breaker trips, your thermostat may not have the power source to keep its screen on.
5. Broken Thermostat
The thermostat could just simply be broken. If you’ve already checked the other issues listed here and it still doesn’t work, then you’ll likely have to replace the thermostat.
