It has been several years now since David Letterman retired as a late night TV host, but I still miss his nightly top 10 list. I decided to honor Letterman by coming up with my own list: The top six (sorry our writing staff isn’t as big as Letterman’s was) signs you need a humidifier in your Glenwood Springs, Aspen, or Vail, CO home. Drum roll please:
Number Six
Your household pets and children recoil in terror whenever you try to touch them.
Can you blame them? That’s what happens after being repeatedly shocked because of static electricity caused by dry air. Maintaining a proper humidity level (40%-50%) will almost eliminate static electricity in your home.
Number Five
There is really no need to buy any sort of Halloween costume because your frizzy, fly-away hair will scare anyone.
You know what I’m talking about. You finish blow-drying your hair and it immediately stands straight up attracted to the hairbrush as if it was a magnet. Many people don’t realize it, but this is all because of the dry air.
Number Four
You sit down to play the piano and it sounds terrible as if it’s out of tune.
This can happen to any musical instrument made from wood. Dry air causes the wood to warp and even a slight imperfection can make it sound like all those music lessons you took were a waste of money.
Number Three
My skin itches like crazy and I always seem to have a sore throat.
These are just two of many annoying symptoms of living without proper humidification. Dry air can also cause nose bleeds and dry, irritated nasal passages.
Number Two
My hardwood floors are cracking and warping.
This can happen to the woodwork in your house as well as the wood floors. Dry air saps moisture in the wood causing it to shrink.
And the Number ONE Sign You Need a Humidifier
Everyone in the house seems to be sick with the flu or other viruses all the time.
Research clearly shows dry air makes it easier for many viruses, including the flu, to spread. I’m not saying adding a humidifier will guarantee good health, but it will certainly improve the odds because the viruses simply don’t live as long when there is proper humidification.
CLIMATE CONTROL HAS SOLUTIONS
The best way to solve these problems is with a whole-house humidifier. It’s installed as part of your central heating system and connected to the household water supply. It adds moisture to the air as it’s moving through the home’s HVAC ductwork. Portable humidifiers can be used in single rooms, but they take up floor space and you will need to add water on a regular basis. Call Climate Control Company to learn more about the options for assuring proper humidification in your Glenwood Springs, Aspen, or Vail, CO home.
