5 Step Spring AC Maintenance Checklist | Kitchener ON

5 Step Spring AC Maintenance Checklist | Kitchener ON

Spring is finally here in Southeastern NC! With summer just around the corner, your AC system will need a little TLC to ensure it efficiently cools your home in the months to come. We encourage homeowners to follow this five step spring air conditioning maintenance checklist to prepare your cooling system for the summer sun!

Spring Air Conditioning Maintenance
  1. Clean Coils and Drain Lines

Making sure your coils and drain lines are clean will allow your unit to run more efficiently, ensuring you have the heating or cooling you need. If lines become worn, develop leaks, or detach, your home will not get the comfortable temperatures you want. Clean lines will also lower utility costs, improve indoor air quality, and airflow. Our affordable HVAC Maintenance Plans include coil and drain line cleanings in addition to many other services to keep your system operating at peak efficiency.

  1. Change the Air Filter

This is one of the easiest tasks you can do to keep your HVAC unit running at peak efficiency. Spring is the perfect time of the year to change out your air filter since your system has likely been working hard throughout the previous winter months. We recommend checking your air filters regularly, especially when your air conditioning system is working in overdrive during the hottest summer months. If your filters start to get clogged, you should clean or replace them. Investing in a higher quality air filter will also prevent it from getting clogged too quickly.

  1. Clean Around the Outdoor Unit

It’s likely that you will have some debris collected around the base of the unit over the past few months. It’s important to keep the area around your unit clean so that your home is less susceptible to potential fires. Keeping pollen, dirt, dust and debris from growing around your unit will save you money on repair costs in the long run as well as improve your general air quality. As you landscape your yard for the spring, be sure to cut your lawn away from your unit while maintaining grass piles away from the system, as well as trim back vegetation and branches within a minimum of 2 feet around the unit.

  1. Check your Fan Blades

It’s important to take inventory of your fan blades every few months, both when they are in motion and stationary. Look for signs of damage or wear and tear. If you notice substantial damage, call or schedule an appointment with a heating and cooling professional.

  1. Schedule HVAC Maintenance

With summer being just around the corner, your HVAC technician can identify any problems that may occur when switching to cool your home. Having your service done now will also ensure that any necessary repairs can be made before hotter weather kicks in.
