In the winter when the fluid in the earth is 73 degrees and your home is approaching single digits, the pump will move the warm fluid into your home where it will radiate that heat and allow the cold section of the fluid (the part that was in your home, cold) to return to the ground and gain heat.
The only electrical part of this system is the pump (and maybe some smart features devices like the thermostat) so this is a very energy efficient system. It’s also safe for the environment because there’s no greenhouse gasses involved.
