Signs You Need Furnace Repair Right Away
The first signs of furnace trouble may not be so obvious as simply not having heat. Maybe you’re slowly noticing your Overland Park home isn’t warming up like it used to.
Or there’s a new sound coming from the basement or smell from the vents of your North Kansas City home.
You also may notice rising utility bills that seem more drastic than usual as temperatures cool down outside.
These are all common signs that you may need furnace repair. Describe what’s going on, and we’ll take a look, diagnose it, explain how we can fix it, and warm up your home as soon as possible.

Need Furnace Repair? You Might Be Experiencing a Common Kansas City HVAC Problem
These are common issues you may have with your furnace. Blue Heating and Cooling can help you with all of them and more when you call us at (816) 719-1099.
-
A clogged air filter. If air cannot pass through your filter, your system can’t blow adequate air through your vents. (You can do your best to prevent this issue by changing your filter every month or two, and we’d be happy to show you how!)
-
A faulty starting mechanism, usually the electric ignition. Formally known as a “pilot light,” electric ignitions are what start your furnace’s heating cycle. Your furnace may not turn on if this is your problem.
-
A bad heat exchanger. This component is basically a coil of heated tubes. Your furnace blows air through these tubes to warm up the air that it then pushes through your home. If your heat exchanger isn’t working, your furnace will be blowing cool air.
-
Broken blower components. Blower bearings, belts, and capacitors sometimes need repair. If you hear a scraping sound coming from your furnace, it may need new ball bearings in its blower. A high-pitched squeal can mean you need a new belt. And if your capacitor – the part that makes the blower motor work – your furnace may trip your breaker due to the power surge this problem causes. We recommend checking your circuit breaker before you call us; this is a vital clue in solving the furnace repair puzzle!
-
A limit switch issue. You can have two issues with your limit switch, the part responsible for detecting heat and telling the blower fan when to turn off and on. This prevents your furnace from getting dangerously hot, too.
If your limit switch continuously tells the blower fan to turn off, it can mean your furnace’s burners are getting too hot, too quickly. If your limit switch allows your furnace to run continuously, then that means your system is missing a vital safety component. Without it, your furnace may overheat, catch fire, or sustain severe heat-related damage.
-
A faulty thermostat. Your thermostat registers the temperature in your home and tells your furnace when to start heating. Over time, your thermostat may read temperatures less accurately, so your furnace is turning on and off when it shouldn’t. There also can be a wiring issue within your thermostat and the way it connects to your air handler.
