The Air-Conditioning, Heating, & Refrigeration Institute has released its latest equipment shipment data. Highlights are as follows:
Residential storage water heaters
U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters for July 2024 changed +9.0%, to 312,476 units, compared to 286,619 units shipped in July 2023. Residential electric storage water heater shipments changed +19.5% in July 2024 to 396,168 units, compared to 331,641 units shipped in July 2023.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of residential gas storage water heaters changed +0.3%, to 2,522,542,
compared to 2,515,939 shipped during that same period in 2023. Residential electric storage water heater shipments changed +7.7% year-to-date, to 3,045,246 units, compared to 2,826,318 shipped during the same period in 2023.
Commercial storage water heaters
Commercial gas storage water heater shipments changed -13.4% in July 2024, to 5,217 units, compared to 6,021 units shipped in July 2023. Commercial electric storage water heater shipments changed +24.9% in July 2024, to 11,709, compared to 9,373 units shipped in July 2023.
Year-to-date U.S. shipments of commercial gas storage water heaters changed +0.4%, to 51,998 units,
compared to 51,769 units shipped during the same period in 2023. Year-to-date commercial electric storage water heater shipments changed +13.3%, to 95,647 units, compared to 84,436 units shipped during the same period in 2023.
U.S. shipments of gas warm air furnaces for July 2024 changed +20.1%, to 255,099 units, compared to
212,490 units shipped in July 2023. Oil warm air furnace shipments changed +72.3%, to 1,864 units in
July 2024, compared to 1,082 units shipped in July 2023.
A shipment is defined as when a unit transfers ownership; a consignment is not a transfer of ownership.
