Arkema Plant Will Onshore Refrigerant’s Production

CALVERT CITY, Ky. — Specialty materials company Arkema North America formally opened a new unit at its refrigerant plant in Calvert City, Kentucky, with an August 26 ribbon-cutting.

The $60 million unit at the plant is for the production of Arkema’s Forane 1233zd refrigerant and will be one of only two sites in the U.S. where that refrigerant is made. The refrigerant had been made overseas for the most part, and Arkema is domesticating its production, which will improve the supply chain, a press release from Arkema said.

“The new production unit manufacturing Forane FBA 1233zd and Forane HTS 1233zd further enables Arkema´s strategy to become a leader in specialty materials,” said Arkema Inc. president and CEO Tony O’Donovan. “This unit will serve both U.S. and international customers, providing regional supply reliability and flexibility in case of supply chain or other disruptions.”
