Building Performance Institute Names New CEO

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. — Amanda Hatherly will be the next CEO of the Building Performance Institute (BPI).

In this role, Hatherly will lead the BPI toward its goals, which include thriving home performance businesses and training centers, economic opportunity for contractors and professionals, and improved housing stock for the U.S., a BPI press release said.

Hatherly brings 15 years of experience in leadership in the energy-efficiency and building science community to the position. Much of her previous work has been focused on creating equitable access for the home performance workforce to energy-efficiency career opportunities, especially in low-income communities and those that have experienced disinvestment.

Hatherly holds a master of science degree in educational technology from Boise State University and a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish from the University of Auckland. She has worked as a building analyst at the helm of her own company and as a building science trainer and BPI proctor.

Most recently, Hatherly managed an energy efficiency and electrification workforce education and training program in California through Richard Heath & Associates Inc. She has served on the BPI board of directors for six years, most recently as chairwoman.

“Working with Amanda over the past 15 years has been a real pleasure,” said outgoing CEO Larry Zarker. “She has a deep understanding of how buildings impact the health of occupants and a genuine commitment to equity. I’m proud to pass the baton to her and look forward to what BPI will achieve under her leadership.”

“I’m very honored to join BPI in advancing standards, credentials, and quality assurance in the home performance and weatherization industry,” Hatherly said. “From my earliest days in the home performance industry, BPI has been integral to my growth and development, shaping my understanding of best practices and my commitment to energy-efficient, healthy, safe, and durable housing for all.”
