Eichler HVAC Installation Sequoyah Hills – Oakland Hills

Designed in 1964, and built in 1965-1966, the Eichler homes in the Oakland Hills in the Sequoyah Hills neighborhood were some of the last Eichlers built in the East Bay. The 53 Eichler homes were one of Joseph Eichlers smaller subdivisions in Northern California. The Eichlers of Sequoyah Hills are located on the intersections of Hansom Drive, Phaeton Drive, and Shay Drive, all near the entry to the neighborhood at the intersection of Hansom Drive and Keller Avenue.

Most of the homes are three to five bedrooms, with pitched rooflines – double-A frames, gables, and a few flatline roofs; open atriums, with heating provides by radiant heating via copper pipes in the flooring. The architects on these Eichler homes were Claude Oakland and the team of Jones + Emmons. These mid-century East Bay homes are on spacious lots, compared to many Eichlers.

Installing Air Conditioning in Your Oakland Hills Eichler Home

If you own an Eichler home in the Oakland Hills, and you need to install a new heating an cooling system, Ventwerx HVAC has a proven solution that won’t affect the visual aesthetics or structural integrity of your home.

Central air conditioning is a bad fit for modern Eichler homes, as these homes do not have space to install ductwork to move air. Most mid-century Eichler homes have open beam rafters, and no attics, meaning a more nuanced solution is necessary.

The ideal solution is ductless heating and cooling. Ductless HVAC systems function as heat pumps, which move heat energy from one environment to another. Instead of relying on large, unsightly ductwork to move forced air, ductless heating and cooling uses a more streamlined method. This system is easy to install and it will not alter the original structural make-up of your home.

With ductless HVAC, a three to four-inch hole in the wall is used to for the conduit connecting the indoor evaporator units and outdoor condenser units. Different rooms have air handling units mounted inconspicuously on the wall to provide heated or cooled air to different rooms, or “zones”.

Refrigerant is cycled through the lines within the conduit from the outdoor condensing unit to the indoor unit, where the air is quietly distributed to the interior space.
