Just keep reading to learn more about some of the important factors to consider when choosing a new air conditioner. Then give our team a call to schedule your in-home assessment where we can review the details with you and help you select the perfect solution for your family.

Type of Cooling System

First, you want to select the type of cooling system you wanna install. You can choose from a standard central air conditioner, and inverter model, a central heat pump, or a ductless heat pump. The key difference between a central air conditioner and an inverter air conditioner is the variation in motor speed during operation.

Standard models have a single speed. This means your air conditioner is always working at its best to cool your home. But when temperatures are milder outside, you may not need as much cooling power. That’s where an inverter model comes in. If you’re interested in saving even more on your monthly energy costs, an AC that uses inverter technology is a great solution.

On milder days when temperatures are not as hot outside, your air conditioner can lower its operating speed so it doesn’t work as hard to cool your home, ultimately saving on your monthly energy costs. Alternately, you may be looking for an all-in-one heating and cooling solution. Both central heat pumps and ductless heat pumps can help with that.

A central heat pump attaches to ductwork, while a ductless model does not require ductwork or a large central unit. Instead, you have smaller units placed methodically around your home. They can either be used to maintain a consistent temperature across your entire home or you can customize heating and cooling settings in each different area.

Unit Size

Next, you want to consider the size of the unit being installed. Sizing calculations are based on how big your home is and the climate zone. Here in Salem, we don’t see summers that are quite as hot as some of the southernmost states.

This means we don’t need quite as much cooling power on most days. Our team can complete an in-home assessment and offer the just-right size of either a central air conditioner or heat pump so you get the most efficient unit possible.

Efficiency Rating

And speaking of efficiency, you also want to take SEER2 energy efficiency ratings into account. There is a minimum efficiency rating of 13.4 for our climate zone. But having a high-efficiency unit with a stronger rating will ultimately save you money over the life of your unit.

Not only will your central AC or heat pump cool your home effectively, but it will also reduce wear and tear since it doesn’t have to work as hard. This can extend the lifespan of your unit so that it can last your family longer.
