Signs You Need A New HVAC System

There are four major indicators that your heating, ventilation or A/C systems require repairs or replacement.

If you know what signs to look for, you can save yourself time,

How Often Does Your HVAC System Start Up, And For How Long?

hvac specialist testing commercial hvac unitHVAC systems work by gauging the desired temperature of your home and adjusting its active time accordingly.

It should generally run 2-3 times per hour for 10-15 minutes at a time in mild temperatures. If your HVAC system is older, or hasn’t been properly maintained it will begin to turn on more frequently, for longer periods of time in order to maintain the proper temperature for your home.

As your HVAC system gets close to its expiration date, it will be less efficient and will run for extended periods every time it starts up, so it is definitely something to look out for!

Is Your HVAC System Getting Louder?

If your HVAC system is getting louder or making any unusual noises, it might be a sign it has been working too hard and is in need of maintenance.

Gone untreated, this will create air quality issues or undesirable temperatures for extended periods. This could also mean your HVAC system has a part that has come loose, which can pose a fire hazard. Make sure to check on your HVAC system at least monthly to ensure it is running properly.

How Long Have You Had Your HVAC System?

HVAC systems are intended to last you about 8-10 years. If you’ve been using your system for more than 10 years, it’s likely that it’s no longer as efficient as it once was. We recommend that you book a visit with one of our HVAC specialists to see if your system needs replacing or if it’s got a few more years of quality function.

Is Your Utility Bill Climbing?

In the winter and summer months your HVAC system will need more power to maintain the proper indoor temperature. Whereas fall and spring require less temperature control due to the mild weather outside.

However, if you notice your utility bill is spiking throughout the winter or summer months when no changes have been made to your routine this is a telltale sign that your HVAC system needs to be replaced, because it is working overtime and consuming mass amounts of energy.
