The Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust (SMOHIT), a leading organization dedicated to the health and safety of unionized sheet metal workers, has appointed Jeff Bradley as its new program administrator. Bradley, who most recently served as SMOHIT’s program director, brings a wealth of experience and a passion for innovation to his new role.
In his previous position, Bradley made significant strides in promoting health and safety initiatives for sheet metal workers. His efforts included launching 12-step programs for addressing alcohol and substance abuse, developing the Megaprojects app and website to support workers on the go, and implementing naloxone training to equip members with lifesaving skills in the event of an opioid overdose.
Bradley’s appointment as program administrator reflects his success in less than a year as program director. The move also brings him from his hometown of St. Louis to SMOHIT’s headquarters in Falls Church, Virginia. Bradley is excited about the new opportunities for collaboration that come with working in person with the home office staff.
“We were able to get a lot accomplished before, but now that I’m at the home office it’s a new dynamic,” he said. “Working with the staff here, in person, when we collaborate the ideas and opportunities can just flow.”
As program administrator, Bradley will focus on expanding awareness of SMOHIT’s programs among those who may not yet know about the resources available to them. To that end, he has spearheaded online initiatives such as the Megaprojects app and making naloxone and safety promotional materials available through the SMOHIT online store.
“Whatever we’re working on, I’m always thinking about how I can get that on the website and make it easier for members to access,” Bradley said. “We are going to continue to grow and build new programs as we see the needs and opportunities within the trade.”
Bradley’s journey in the sheet metal industry began with his apprenticeship in 2004 at Sheet Metal Workers Local 36 in St. Louis. He went on to become an instructor, organizer, and director of marketing for Local 36, earning his associate degree in HVAC-R and completing numerous certifications along the way. He joined SMOHIT in 2023, rising from field representative to program director in just a few months.
SMOHIT was founded in 1986 to address the health impacts of asbestos exposure on sheet metal workers. Today, the organization’s mission has expanded to encompass the overall health and well-being of its members. By providing cutting-edge physical, mental, and emotional health and safety solutions, SMOHIT aims to prevent occupational illnesses, support mental health, and promote healthy lifestyles among union members and contractors.
With Bradley at the helm as program administrator, SMOHIT is poised to continue its growth and innovation in support of the health and safety of the sheet metal community. For more information on SMOHIT and its programs, visit smohit.org or call 703-739-7130.
