Superior Duct Fabrication Spearheads Holiday Toy Drive with Highway Patrol

Superior Duct Fabrication (SDF) once again joined forces with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) for their annual holiday toy drive, continuing a partnership that spans over a decade.

The initiative, part of CHP’s “CHiPs for Kids” program, aims to collect new, unwrapped toys for children in need across southern California. They met this year’s ambitious goal: distributing 100,000 toys to bring holiday cheer to underprivileged families.

“It’s a yearlong effort that we start in January,” explained Ashley Hoppe from SDF’s Business Development team during a recent KCAL News appearance. “It takes a community – we bring in our vendors, our customers, and our employees and gather toys all year long.”

The sheet metal manufacturing leader has transformed their business operations into a hub of holiday giving, with collection bins prominently displayed at their facility. The company not only purchases gifts directly but also serves as a central collection point for donations from customers and vendors throughout the year.

What sets this toy drive apart is its inclusive approach.

“We want to make sure that they’re included… we work to make sure that we include those of all ages from little babies all the way up to 18-year-old kids,” a representative emphasized during the KCAL News coverage. The drive particularly focuses on often-overlooked teenagers, accepting gift cards as an age-appropriate option for older recipients.

For Superior Duct Fabrication, this initiative represents more than just seasonal charity. Their commitment to community giving runs deep in the company’s DNA.

“We’ve been a part of this CHiPs for Kids for over a decade now, and we just love giving back to the kids in our community,” said Taylor Mortensen, Sales Director at Superior Duct Fabrication. As a second-generation leader in the family business, Mortensen sees this annual tradition as an extension of their company and family’s values.

“Being in a family business, it’s just such a wonderful thing. People love doing business with family-owned businesses,” Mortensen explained. “We’re continuing to grow, but it’s just really exciting. Twenty years in the making, my dad started it, and we’re just continuing to grow. And it’s just a lot of momentum that we have here at Superior, and we just love giving that back and that fortunate situation that we’ve created back to our community.”

The logistics of organizing such a massive toy collection effort are considerable. This year, the company delivered a truckload of gifts to the collection site at Plaza West Covina. Hoppe, who helps coordinate these efforts, emphasized the comprehensive nature of their giving strategy.

“We want to give them bikes, things that they really like, gift cards, stuff that they can feel fulfilled by,” she noted, highlighting their particular attention to older children who might otherwise be overlooked during holiday giving campaigns.

The success of Superior Duct Fabrication’s contribution to the CHiPs for Kids program demonstrates how sheet metal businesses can create lasting impact in their communities.
