What are the components of central air conditioners? | Kitchener ON

Central air conditioners are the most efficient type of air conditioning for your home. They equally distribute air into each room of your house through one system, and it can be adjusted per room so everyone in your family gets the temperature they desire.

Before purchasing a central air conditioner for your home, make sure you look into the details of it to find if it is best for your home. For instance, what are the components of central air conditioners?

The Evaporator Coil

The evaporator coil is a crucial component of a central air conditioner. It’s the part that is connected to the heat pump and absorbs the heat in your house, and is a main part of what keeps your home at the temperature you like and comfortable for you to live in.

The HVAC air filter makes sure your evaporator coil is shielded from the dirt and debris in your home, so that only the heat can get into the evaporator coil. This ensures there will be less maintenance for that part and it will save you money.

The Compressor

The compressor is another important component in a central air conditioner. The compressor is in the middle of your air conditioner and is the hottest part of it.

The compressor takes the warm refrigerant — the substance that causes cooling — and compresses it into a denser foam. Without this component, the refrigerant would ultimately not be able to cool the inside of your house.

This vital piece also moves the refrigerant between the evaporator coil and the next piece, the condenser foil.

The Condenser Coil

Your compressor may be the one compressing the refrigerant into a denser form and moving it between the evaporator coil and this piece, but the condenser coil is the one that changes the refrigerant into its liquid state.

The condenser coil increases the pressure on the refrigerant as a gas and moves it into its liquid state. This is a crucial part of the process because while the condenser coil does this, the heat from the refrigerant is released outdoors, allowing the cool air to come into your home.

The Expansion Valve

The expansion valve is the final component of your central air conditioner that deals with the refrigerant.

This piece takes the liquid refrigerant and allows it to expand and turn into a vapor rather than a liquid. The expansion valve also makes the vapor more like a cold mist than a hot gas, where it will then make its trip back to the evaporator and be released into your home.
