Performing a fall heat inspection checklist for your heating equipment may help you solve problems before they begin. There are several things you can do to make sure your system is ready to run.
Clean
Replace your Air Filters. This will ensure proper, clean airflow to your system. Air filters should be replaced at least every three months or every month if you have pets or high traffic.
Make sure the furnace cabinet is accessible without clutter around it. Clean the air vents and registers throughout the house. Make sure that nothing is blocking the airflow to and from the vents and registers.
Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Replace batteries and make sure that your warning alarms are operating properly. It is important to do this regularly.
Visual Fall Heat Inspection
Do the wires and cords look clean and normal or do they show signs of wear or damage?
Do the pipes all look dry and uniform, are there and signs of leakages?
Any signs of mold or mildew?
Schedule a Fall Heating Maintenance Inspection
Having an annual heat inspection by a certified technician is important. It ensures your system is running to it’s manufacturer’s specifications, including all the components. If a component fails, it can cause other components to fail, even lead to a system failure and expensive consequences.
If a problem is caught before a part fails, it will cost far less to address than leaving it to fail completely and negatively impacting other components in the system.
Heating homes is a big, continuous function for your valuable HVAC Equipment. It is the hardest working equipment in your home. Starting in the fall when we change from cooling settings to heat, that system has to really be operating properly, especially as the weather gets colder and colder. Having your system fail in the coldest of Winter is very devastating.
If you have a newer system or a system that is under a manufacturer’s warranty, the manufacturer can and often do require maintenance records of a system if they have to replace a major component. Not having maintenance records can invalidate the warranty.
Air Doctor Heating and Air provides a written report of the technician’s testing of your system and notes any concerns with the readings that your need to be aware of. Whether your system is old or new, Heat Pump, Gas or Oil Furnace or Boiler system, they all need to be properly checked before they are put back into heavy use.
