The American Boiler Manufacturers Association (ABMA) has named Shaunica Jayson interim president and CEO following the conclusion of Scott Lynch’s 12-year tenure leading the association.
Jayson, who has been part of the ABMA team for more than nine years, takes the position effective immediately. According to ABMA, she has the support of the association’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee as the organization works through the leadership transition.
“Leadership transitions are part of the life of every organization. While change can bring uncertainty, it also reminds us of the strength of what has been built and of our ability to move forward together,” said Nancy Simoneau, chair of the ABMA Board of Directors.
Simoneau said ABMA’s priority throughout the transition will remain serving its members and advancing the boiler industry.
“ABMA exists first and foremost to serve its members, and our strength comes from their expertise, commitment, and generosity,” she said. “We approach this next chapter with gratitude for the past, confidence in our team, and optimism for the future as we continue advancing our Association and our industry.”
Leadership Change
Lynch’s departure concludes 12 years with ABMA. The association credited him with contributing to ABMA’s evolution and helping build relationships throughout the industry during his tenure. The Board thanked Lynch for his service and wished him well in his future endeavors.
Jayson brings what the association described as deep institutional knowledge and stability to the interim position. Her more than nine years with ABMA have given her experience with the organization, its members, and its staff.
In her first message to members as interim president and CEO, Jayson said she is approaching the new responsibility with humility and a readiness to begin the work ahead.
“It is a genuine honor to serve this organization, and I am approaching this responsibility with a great deal of humility and a clear readiness to get to work,” Jayson said.
Her first message coincided with the approach of Labor Day, which Jayson used as an opportunity to recognize the work performed throughout the boiler industry.
“The work you do behind the scenes is essential,” she told members. “The equipment you design, manufacture, and maintain are the silent engines that make the world run and operate.”
Jayson pointed to hospitals, schools, heavy manufacturing, and power generation as examples of areas supported by the industry’s equipment and workforce.
“From hospitals and schools to heavy manufacturing and power generation, your daily labor is what keeps modern life moving forward,” she said.
Looking Ahead
Founded in 1888, ABMA describes itself as the oldest continuous trade association in the country. Jayson said preserving that legacy will accompany efforts to examine how the organization can improve its operations and support for members.
“As we look to the future, we are taking a fresh look at how we operate and are actively working on ways to strengthen our association so we can deliver even better value and support to you,” Jayson said.
She added that ABMA’s fundamental purpose remains serving its members and the boiler industry.
“There is important work ahead, and I am committed to working tirelessly on your behalf to ensure we are always moving in the right direction,” she said.
Meanwhile, the ABMA Executive Committee is establishing a process to identify the association’s next permanent president and CEO. According to the association, the search will take into consideration ABMA’s responsibility to members, the changing needs of the boiler industry, and future opportunities.
ABMA said its staff and daily operations will remain fully engaged in serving members and advancing the industry throughout the transition.
