Anti-Bacterial PVC Now Available for Commercial Use

HOUSTON, Texas — RectorSeal ClearDrain PVC is now available for commercial and industrial HVACR applications, including grocery stores, convenience stores, refrigeration case drain routing, and rooftop units.

ClearDrain PVC Commercial, like its residential counterpart, incorporates zinc in its manufacturing process. This results in a smooth, slippery inner wall that helps prevent the growth of bacteria and algae. Independently tested to ISO 22196:2011, biocide-free ClearDrain PVC is up to 1,000 times more effective at preventing blockages caused by bacteria, known as white slime, than standard SCH40 PVC pipe, a press release from RectorSeal said.

ClearDrain PVC can reduce white slime growth by up to 98% or more, the company said. The product is rated for refrigeration capacities of up to 20 tons and offers a complete lineup of fittings for routing refrigeration case drains.

For commercial facilities, ClearDrain PVC provides a one-time material upgrade that helps reduce reliance on chemical treatments, biocide tablets, and recurring maintenance programs. It also supports health code and food safety compliance, reduces slip-and-fall risks from drain overflows, and lowers the risk of water damage and service disruptions across store fleets and commercial facilities.

ClearDrain PVC has been deployed in real-world commercial refrigeration environments, including grocery stores operating year-round under continuous condensate loads. In these high-biofilm conditions — among the most demanding for any condensate drain system — ClearDrain PVC has demonstrated consistent performance in preventing white slime buildup, the company said.

“For grocery, retail, and commercial facilities, a clogged drain can quickly become a maintenance, safety, and operational issue,” said Andrew Twitty, senior director of product strategy at RectorSeal. “ClearDrain PVC helps reduce that risk with long-term protection built directly into the pipe.”
