Whistle Stop Park honors Redding’s long-standing connection to the California and Oregon Railroad. The 2-acre park has been designed as a mixed-use property in the transformation of a 1,600 square foot urban area known as Block 7. The park is centrally located, featuring a permanent stage and central location, a performance kiosk, lawn and seating options, abundant shade, and a cooling mist garden to create a refreshing microclimate oasis for guests. The Block 7 transformation project is a joint effort by The McConnell Foundation, K2 Development, and The City of Redding and was created through the design collaboration of OLIN, Modus Studio, and DMARCstudio, with specialty expertise provided by Koolfog and CMS Collaborative for one of the key features.

PROJECT: COOLING MIST GARDEN
INSTALLATION LOCATION: Whistle Stop Park, Redding California
Koolfog collaborated closely with OLIN on the Whistle Stop Park project, playing a significant role in bringing the mist garden concept to life. Aligning with OLIN’s creative vision, Koolfog’s expertise in fog effects helped shape an immersive and dynamic environment that enhances the park’s sense of place. The mist garden was thoughtfully integrated into the design to evoke the historical significance of steam locomotives while providing a refreshing, interactive experience for visitors. CMS Collaborative worked closely with Koolfog on the final design, drawing set, and final CD submission for the project. CMS and Koolfog contributed to the control integration, ensuring the fog would work within the overall park design and help bring the vision to life. By engineering a system that seamlessly blends with the landscape, the team contributed to the park’s innovative approach to storytelling, sustainability, and community engagement.
