BRANTFORD, Ontario — Copeland held its seventh annual Apprentice Day on Sept. 27 at its Integrated Learning Centre in Brantford, Ontario, bringing together nearly 60 apprentices, students, and future HVACR professionals for a day of hands-on training, networking, and career development.
The event comes at a critical time for the HVACR industry, which continues to face a significant workforce shortage. According to recent estimates, the industry has averaged about 42,500 job openings each year over the past decade. Apprentice Day was created to help address this gap by fostering innovation, building skills, and strengthening the pipeline of future technicians and leaders.
This year’s program featured interactive learning in three key areas:
-
Copeland compressor troubleshooting;
-
Vilter industrial compressor technology; and
-
Copeland refrigeration and building management systems.
In addition to training, apprentices connected directly with industry leaders and sponsors, gaining valuable insights into both technical skills and long-term career opportunities.
“Apprentice Day is about more than just training; it’s about investing in the future of our industry,” said Ryan Garrah, vice president for Copeland in Canada. “The fact that this event sold out so quickly shows just how committed apprentices are to building their careers and how much enthusiasm there is for learning from industry leaders.”
For HVACR contractors, events like Apprentice Day underscore the importance of training and workforce development to meet growing customer demand. By supporting apprentices, manufacturers and contractors alike are investing in the long-term strength of the trade.
