New Bill Would Lower Retirement Age for Qualified Workers

If you’re counting down the days to retirement, a new bill could help shave off years from that countdown. The Blue Collar Social Security Fairness Act would lower the age at which people can claim full Social Security benefits to 60 for those working in physically demanding occupations. Currently, workers born after 1960 must wait until age 67 to receive full benefits. If approved, the bill would create a list of qualifying occupations and provide a weighted points system to help those in physically demanding jobs qualify.
