When it’s time to replace your furnace, what do most Minnesota homeowners do?You look around for a reputable HVAC company if you don’t already have one and leave it up to them. Don’t worry, we’re not putting you down, we’re just describing the usual encounter with customers in need of that service.It goes something like this:

• Do I really need to replace it or can this one be fixed?

• What do you think it might cost?

• This one isn’t heating the whole house evenly – anything you can do about that?

• We’ve added a family room since this furnace was installed and things started going downhill from there.

That’s a pretty good conversation. All good questions and observations, but it still doesn’t get to the heart of what goes into a furnace replacement job.In America, for example, we have an abundance of high quality furnace manufacturers which means, among other things, that trying to choose one over the others would be nearly impossible unless you really know what goes into a heating system. • Check your ductwork for proper airflow.

• Locate spots where air is escaping your home – such as through and around windows, doors, and your attic – so proper corrective measures can be taken to keep your heating costs in check while helping to conserve natural resources.

• Check the location and integrity of vents and registers
